Rental clerks run the transaction layer of borrowing things: checking customers in at car-rental desks, equipment yards, tool counters, party-supply houses, and storage facilities. The work is reservation management, license and deposit verification, walking customers through contracts and damage waivers, inspecting items on return, charging for the scratched fender or the missing sander pad, and keeping the fleet or inventory tracked and maintained-ish. The human residue concentrates in three places. And small independent operators — party rentals, local tool shops — automate slowly. Pick a direction away from the transaction. Learn the equipment deeply enough to instruct and advise — that's the counter role that survives. Or go technical: rental-management software, telematics, and fleet systems all need local operators. Or go physical: mechanics and drivers are chronically short. The pure check-in/check-out role is the specific thing being deleted, so build anything adjacent to it.
Camera arches and handheld scanning apps photograph vehicles or equipment at exit and return, and vision models compare the two states, flagging new dents, scratches, and glass damage automatically. It's more consistent than human walk-arounds and produces time-stamped evidence, which cuts disputes both ways — customers get protection from bogus charges, companies catch damage clerks missed.
