The resistant work is everything congested, variable, and consequential. Urban sites with utilities in the ground, demolition, lifting crews of humans in and out of position, working around live traffic, and the thousand daily negotiations with foremen and inspectors — autonomy is nowhere near handling a downtown pick with a tower crane. Union strength and licensing also slow the transition; hoisting licenses attach liability to a person.
