A master potter's practice spans far more than the wheel. There's clay preparation and wedging, throwing and trimming, handles and assembly, glaze chemistry — a genuine applied science of oxides, fluxes, and firing curves — kiln loading and firing (where a wood or reduction firing is a multi-day judgment exercise), plus the unglamorous business layer: photographing work, running online shops, teaching classes, and doing craft fairs.
